Settings | How To Clean A PC 🎦

Dust is the silent enemy of a well-functioning PC!

Cleaning your PC is essential for the following reasons: It prevents overheating by removing dust that builds up on fans, heat sinks, and vents, which can restrict airflow and cause components to run hot—potentially leading to crashes or long-term damage. It also extends your hardware’s lifespan, since dust and debris can cause corrosion or short circuits that shorten the life of parts like your motherboard, graphics card, and power supply. Lastly, a clean system improves overall performance, keeping your PC cool so the processor and graphics card can run at full speed without thermal throttling.

How to Clean Your PC

  1. Power Off and Unplug:
    • Start by fully powering down and unplugging your PC.
  2. Gather Cleaning Supplies:
    • Use wet wipes and a can of compressed air for this process.
  3. Clean the Exterior:
    • Wipe the outside of your PC with a wet wipe to remove any surface dust and grime.
  4. Open the Case:
    • Press the latch at the top of your PC to remove the side panel.
  5. Dust the Interior:
    • Use the canned air to blow dust out of the case, focusing on the fans where dust accumulates the most.
    • For added cleaning, gently wipe accessible parts of the interior with a wet wipe, avoiding any delicate components.
  6. Reassemble and Dry:
    • Once cleaning is complete, reattach the side panel.
    • Make sure the PC is fully dry before plugging it back in and turning it on.
