If your facility automatically removes power from the simulator PC overnight, Trackman recommends allowing Windows to perform a normal shutdown before power is removed.
A controlled shutdown gives both Windows and Trackman Performance Studio (TPS) time to close properly and save any required data before the system loses power.
Recommended Process
- Schedule a Windows shutdown
- You can use a scheduled Windows shutdown, such as through Windows Task Scheduler, to shut down the PC automatically each night.
- TPS closes safely
- TPS has time to save settings and close normally.
- Windows shuts down correctly
- Background services and updates finish properly.
- Facility power is removed
- The building timer or power management system can safely disconnect power after the PC has completed its shutdown.
- PC powers back on automatically
- Configure automatic power-on through the PC BIOS if required.
- If help is required for this step, please reach out to your PC provider or the facility's IT technician.
Benefits
- Prevents TPS file corruption
- Reduces Windows startup issues
- Allows Windows updates to complete properly
- Improves overall system stability
- Minimizes unexpected software issues
| Action | Time |
| Windows Scheduled Shutdown | 01:50 AM |
| PC Shuts Down Cleanly | ~01:51 AM |
| Facility Removes Power | 02:00 AM |
This provides sufficient time for TPS and Windows to close properly before power is removed.
Unexpected power loss can lead to operating system or application issues over time. Whenever possible, use a controlled Windows shutdown rather than relying solely on a facility power timer to turn off the PC.
