Settings | How To Boot Into Recovery Mode on Windows 10

  • Updated

This article will cover how to enter Recovery Mode and use Startup Repair on your computer. There are a few ways to enter this depending on the situation, which is included in the guide below.

Steps Guide to Recovery Mode on Windows 10

1. Press F11 during the System Startup

The easiest way to get into recovery mode is by pressing the F11 key shortly after turning on your PC. Keep in mind that some PCs may have the F9 or F12 keys set by default, so verify that with the manufacturer.

2. Use Start menu’s Restart option

  • Click on the Start icon, select the Power button, hold the Shift key, and click on "Restart".
  • Now, click "Troubleshoot"

3. Power Button Reboot

  • Shut PC down.
  • Upon boot up, wait for the splash screen to appear (HP, Dell, etc.) then immediately hit the power button to shut down. Do this 3 times.
  • At this point Windows should give you a “Preparing Automatic Repair” on the screen and will boot into the screen shown below.

From this, please select  “Troubleshoot” and the next screen appears.

Now select “Advanced Options” to get to the next screen.

From here there are many options of repair, but for this purpose you will want to select “Start Up Repair”.  Windows will attempt to repair the Start Up process and, if successful, should boot into Windows normally.
