Saving A USB Swing Camera Profile in TPS

  1. Open TPS.
  2. Navigate to "Settings" > "Camera"
  3. Click the gear icon next to your USB Swing camera to open the settings menu.

Available Presets

The USB Swing camera comes with several built-in presets:

  • Camera Default – General settings, not optimized for Trackman.
  • 120 FPS – Optimized for Trackman with high frame rate.
  • Club Analysis – Optimized for reduced shaft blur during club movement.
  • Custom – Fully adjustable settings for advanced users.
  • Auto Adjust - Allows TPS to control camera settings. Use “Brighten Video” until the image is nice and bright.

Custom Settings Explained

When using the "Custom" preset, you can fine-tune the camera settings to suit your environment and needs:

  • Exposure: Lowering exposure reduces shaft blur but darkens the image. Note: Exposure above 1/128s will reduce the frame rate.
  • Auto Exposure: Automatically adjusts to lighting conditions, but may introduce shaft blur.
  • Gain: Controls the image’s white point intensity.
  • Gamma: Adjust the gamma (midzones of image)
  • Brightness: Increases or decreases overall image lightness.
  • Contrast: Enhances the difference between light and dark areas.
  • Power Line Frequency: Helps eliminate flickering caused by certain lighting (e.g., LED lights).
  • Impact Offset: Fine-tunes the timing of the impact frame if it appears too early or late in the video.
    • Tip: If your image is too dark at 120 FPS with low exposure, try adjusting gaingammabrightnesssaturation, and contrast to improve visibility without sacrificing frame rate.

Saving Your Custom Profile

Once you've dialed in your settings:

  1. Click the pencil icon in the Camera Settings tab.
  2. Rename your profile if desired.
  3. Save your custom configuration for future use.

Best Practices for Camera Settings for 3D Motion Analysis

  • Shutter Speed: 1/1000 s – to reduce blur on club
    • 1/500 s only for slower swing speeds, or low light scenarios (challenges in club tracking might occur)
  • Preset: Auto Adjust
    • Allows TPS to control camera settings
    • Use “Brighten Video” until image is nice and bright
  • General Comments:
    • 3DMA prefers an image that is brighter and grainier over an image that is too dark
    • Less light that is evenly distributed is better than bright light only on part(s) of player
    • Keep the player in the bottom of the image to make sure full swing motion of the club is captured in the video.
