Impact Offset (Tee to Green)

  • Definition
    • The horizontal impact location distance relative to the center of the club face.
That is, Impact Offset measures how far the ball is hit towards the heel or the toe of the club face.
  • The Use of Impact Offset
    • Similar to Impact Height, Impact Offset is useful when working on ball striking.
    • A key factor in determining curvature of the shot is, in addition to Face to Path, the gearing effect created by off-center impact.
    • Impact Offset towards the heel will generally close the club face at impact and create a higher Spin Rate and curvature to the right (for a right-handed golfer).
    • Impact Offset towards the toe will generally open the club face at impact and create a lower Spin Rate and curvature to the left (for a right-handed golfer).
    • Impact Offset is therefore also useful to help understand the tendencies of other parameters such as Spin Rate and Spin Axis.
