Launch Direction
- Definition
- The horizontal angle the golf ball takes off at relative to the target line and measured immediately after separation from the club face.
- That is, Launch Direction is the initial direction the ball starts relative to the target line.
- A positive Launch Direction indicates a ball that starts right of the target and vice versa (right-handed player).
- The ball will always launch closer to where the face is pointing compared to the club path
- The Use of Launch Direction
- Launch Direction is important when working on start direction of shots.
- It is important to understand that Launch Direction does not describe the curvature of the shot, only the start direction.
- For example, a ball with Launch Direction of -2 deg will be 3.5 yards left of the target line at 100 yards if it continues on a straight line.
