Spin Rate (Tee to Green)
- Definition
- The rate of rotation of the golf ball about the imaginary line the golf ball rotates around measured immediately after separation from the club face.
- That is, Spin Rate is the amount of spin on the golf ball immediately after impact.
- The Use of Spin Rate
- Spin Rate has a major influence on the height and distance of shots.
- Spin can be caused by several factors. More loft generally increases the Spin Rate. All else equal, more Club Speed will also increase the Spin Rate.
- A high Spin Rate can both be good and bad, as it creates stopping power, but may also lead to less control, especially when playing in the wind.
