Carry (Tee to Green)
- Definition
- The straight-line distance between where the golf ball was launched from and where it crosses a point that has the same elevation.
- That is, Carry is the distance the ball travels through the air.
- It is important to note that the carry value is given for a landing area that is the same height as where ball is hit from.
- Therefore, it is also often referred to as “Carry Flat”.
- The Use of Carry
- Carry is one of the most important parameters to know for each club in the bag, in order to hit the ball close to the hole and essentially score well.
- The more consistent Carry is for each club, the easier it is to make the right course management decisions, e.g. select which club to hit for a given shot.
- Carry is primarily affected by Ball Speed, Launch Angle, and Spin Rate, and these must be optimized for the player to reach full Carry potential, as well as improving consistency and efficiency.
- Carry is a great tool to check if the golfer’s equipment is set up correct for that person and having consistent gapping between each club.
