Landing Angle (Tee to Green)
- Definition
- The angle the golf ball lands at relative to the horizon and at a point that has the same elevation as where it was launched.
- The Use of Landing Angle
- It is important to consider Landing Angle when optimizing trajectory.
- With a driver, a lower Landing Angle may decrease Carry, but increase Total.
- However, on approach shots it is important to be able to control how much the ball bounces and rolls after it lands.
- A Landing Angle greater than 45 deg is recommended for all approach shots, for optimal stopping power.
- Landing Angle is highly correlated to Height and is a large determinant in the bounce and roll of a golf shot. All else equal, a lower (flatter) Landing Angle will create more bounce and roll.
