Total (Tee to Green)
- Definition
- The straight-line distance between where the golf ball was launched from and its calculated resting position.
- Total is a calculated value based on the Landing Angle, landing Ball Speed, and Spin Rate. A flat surface and “normal” hardness is assumed to calculate total distance.
- The Use of Total
- Similar to Carry, Total is one of the most important parameters to know for each club in the bag, in order to hit the ball close to the hole and essentially score well.
- The more consistent Total is for each club, the easier it is to make the right course management decisions, e.g. select which club to hit for a given shot.
- Total Distance is equally important for custom fitting, being able to maximize total driving distance and how far the ball would potentially run.
- This is also the same for approach shots into the green.
- Having the correct bag set up for approach play, having clubs that create too flat of a Landing Angle and increasing total distance might not be that beneficial when playing your approach shot.
