Dynamic Loft (Putting)

  • Definition
    • The vertical angle of the club face at the center-point of contact between the club and ball at the time of maximum compression. That is, Dynamic Loft is the amount of loft on the club face at impact and is measured relative to the horizon.
    • A putter comes with a Static Loft at purchase, which is the angle of the club face relative to the horizon. It is typically between 3-4 degrees, but can range from 1 to 7 degrees.
    • This angle between face and horizon can be different at impact depending on the putting stroke, specifically hand position, shaft lean and Attack Angle.
    • The angle measured at impact is Dynamic Loft.

  • The Use of Dynamic Loft
    • Dynamic loft influences the initial Launch Angle of the ball. The goal is to achieve a slight upward launch to get the ball rolling smoothly and quickly.
    • Proper dynamic loft helps minimize skidding and promotes a true roll, which is essential for accuracy and consistency in distance control.
