Entry Speed Distance (Putting)
- Definition
- The straight-line distance between where the golf ball was launched from and the point of Entry Speed (1.68 mph).
- The Use of Entry Speed Distance
- Entry Speed is recommended at 1.68 mph, as the ball goes to complete stop very quickly from 1 mph, and therefore the player needs a margin to leave fewer putts short.
- Moreover, at 1.68 mph, the ball has enough speed to be more predictable in terms of break when entering the hole, as well as being less sensitive to inconsistencies around the hole.
- Entry Speed Distance is therefore a useful measure in terms of speed control.
