Shot Analysis | Ball Types for Ball Conversion

In this article, we will walk you through how to select the right ball for Ball Conversion.

Why Ball Type Selection Matters

Range balls behave differently than premium balls. They produce different Ball Speeds, Launch Angles, Spin Rates and Carry Distances compared to premium balls. Selecting the correct ball type allows the system to automatically convert those measurements so players see results that reflect what a premium golf ball would actually do.

How to Identify Your Ball Type

Step 1 — Check the Known Ball List

If it's listed, simply select that category.

If your ball isn’t on the list, proceed with step 2A or 2B:

Step 2A — Test It Yourself (simple approach)

You'll need a good ball striker and both your range ball and a premium ball (e.g. Pro V1).

Hit the following shots and record the averages:

  • 6 x 6-iron with your range ball
  • 6 x 6-iron with a Pro V1
  • 6 x pitching wedge with your range ball
  • 6 x pitching wedge with a Pro V1

Remove any poorly struck shots. Then keep editing unknown ball to a different ball type until Converted launch data of the unknown ball is the most similar to the premium ball.

Another (more detailed) option is to use the decision tree below:

Step 2B — Test It Yourself (detailed approach – decision tree)

6-Iron Ball Speed — Is the range ball more than 2% different from the premium ball?

  • No difference (within 2%) → proceed to 6-iron Spin Rate
  • Higher (>2%) → likely a Floater or Premium
  • Lower (>2%) → likely a Limited Distance ball

6-Iron Spin Rate — Is it within ±400 RPM of the Pro V1?

  • Similar (within 400 RPM) → proceed to wedge spin rate
  • Higher → select the "hard" category
  • Lower → select the "soft/medium" category

Wedge Spin Rate — Is it significantly lower than the Pro V1 (more than 800 RPM less)?

  • Yes → Medium, Hard, or Limited Distance category
  • No → Premium category
