Follow the steps below to temporarily stop the Windows Update service from starting automatically:

Pause Updates in Settings

This is the easiest way to pause updates for 1–5 weeks.  

1. Go to "Settings" > Windows Update.
2. Click Pause for 1 week (or select a longer duration in advanced options).
   • Note: You can only pause a maximum of 5 times before you must update.
