Windows | How to Change the Sleep Mode Timeout

Sleep mode helps save power by putting your PC into a low-power state after a period of inactivity. You can adjust how long Windows 11 waits before going to sleep by following the steps below.

Change Sleep Timeout from Settings

  1. Open Settings
    • Press Windows Key + I
  2. Access Power & Battery Settings
    • Click "System"
    • Select "Power & battery"


       
  3. Adjust Screen and Sleep Timers
    • Expand Screen and sleep
    • Choose how long you want for:
      • Screen to turn off
      • PC to go to sleep
    • You can set different timeouts for:

      • On battery
      • When plugged in

Change Sleep Timeout Using Control Panel

  1. Open Control Panel
    • Type Control Panel in Windows Search
    • Press Enter
  2. Go to Power Options
    • Click Hardware and Sound
    • Select Power Options
  3. Edit Plan Settings
    • Click Change plan settings next to your active power plan
    • Adjust Put the computer to sleep
    • Click Save changes
